Why do we offer students more? It’s simple. Because in ten years’ time, you’ll still be one of our customers. You can start taking more control of your life and your money. With your own bank account you can save up for something big or spend a little whenever you want– it’s up to you. Plus, you’ll be able to access your cash at any time day or night, while only spending what you have in your account.

Bank of Ireland parents can open an account for their child in minutes, using 365 Online.  Students can also call to any Bank of Ireland branch.

Features

As long as you are a full-time second level student you pay absolutely nothing for the following day-to-day banking transactions (made in euro within Ireland):

  • Lodgements
  • Withdrawals
  • Domestic euro Visa Debit card transactions
  • Cash back
  • Debit / credit transactions on your account using 365 Phone and/or Online
  • ATM card

An ATM card will allow you get cash at over 2,000 cash machines around Ireland. Most Bank of Ireland ATM’s will allow you to top up your mobile phone, check your balance and order statements to see how much money you have in your account. We’ll also pay the annual Government Stamp Duty on your Bank of Ireland ATM card (€2.50 per year) or your Bank of Ireland Debit card (up to €5 per year). If we change this at any time in the future, we will tell you beforehand (or publish a notice).

  • Visa Debit card

If you are aged 16 years old or over you are eligible to apply for a Bank of Ireland Visa Debit card. If you are under 18, we will need your parent or guardian to give us consent and indemnity before we process your application.  With a Visa Debit card, you can shop and pay for your purchases directly from your 2nd level student current account, and it also saves you carrying cash around, so it’s perfect for school trips abroad. It’s quick, easy and a better way to pay.

You can use your Visa Debit card at home and abroad to withdraw cash from ATMs and pay for goods and services. However there may be charges for using your Visa Debit card abroad, so please check our Schedule of Fees & Charges brochure.

  • 365 Online and Phone

Remember, to be financially savvy the best thing you can do is to keep track of your spending. You can do this 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year with Bank of Ireland 365 Online and Phone. If you are 16 years old or over you are eligible to apply. Simply call 0818 365 365 to register and remember there are terms and conditions.

  • Mobile Banking

Our mobile banking app allows you to use our most popular 365 online services securely on your smartphone. You can check your balance, transfer funds, pay bills and access other useful services.

  • Text Top Up

No call credit? No problem. Register at any Bank of Ireland ATM that displays the Meteor, O2 or Vodafone logos. You can then top up your call credit by sending a free text. The money is taken directly out of your account. You can also top up using the free text number at anytime, anywhere in the world where your mobile operator has roaming.
