What do I need to apply?

To be eligible to apply online, you must be:

  • Aged 18 to 65
  • Resident in the Republic of Ireland
  • We’ll also ask you to take a selfie in the application form so make sure you’re camera ready

To apply, you’ll need:

  • Valid photo identification – The documents we accept include your passport, drivers license card, or EU National ID card.
  • Proof of address – The documents we accept include a utility bill, a financial statement, or a letter from the Revenue Commissioners, an approved university, the CAO, the Department of Social Welfare, or the Naturalisation and Immigration Service.

  • What is a current account?

    A personal current account is a bank account used for everyday transactions. It lets you lodge and withdraw money frequently without restrictions. Features often include debit cards, online banking, recurrent payments, overdraft facilities, and cheque books. Unlike savings accounts that earn interest, current accounts are designed for high activity and are often used to manage cash flow, or receive payments. They usually don’t earn interest.

  • How do I apply for a current account?

    You can apply for a personal current account online, over the phone, or in your local branch.

    • Online – Choose the device (mobile or computer) you want apply on and get your details ready. You will need to upload:
      • A valid form of photo ID
      • Proof of address

      Here’s a list of acceptable documents. Then follow the on-screen instructions. We’ll ask you to take a selfie in the application form, so make sure you are camera ready.

    • Branch – Visit your local branch and fill in the application form using a Kiosk or with the help of a staff member. You can give your photo identification (ID) and proof of address to a branch staff member, or you can upload them yourself using the link that will be emailed to you after you submit the application.
    • Phone – Call one of our agents on 0818 354 454 (or +353 1 404 4034 outside the Republic of Ireland) and complete an application over the phone. Lines are open 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. The agent will fill in the application for you; just provide your details during the call. When the agent submits the application, you will receive an email with a link to upload your photo identification (ID) and proof of address.

    When you submit your application, you’ll get an email from us with a copy of important documents. Take some time to read through them. If your application is successful, we’ll text you your BIC and IBAN within three days. Take note of these details and keep them safe.

  • How much are current account fees and charges?

    Personal current accounts are charged a monthly account maintenance fee of €6. Some additional fees and charges like Government Stamp Duty, international and interbank transactions, may also apply.

  • How do I open a joint current account?

    You can apply for a joint personal current account online, over the phone, or in your local branch.

    • Online
      Step 1: Applicant 1 fills in their part of the online application form. They upload their photo identification (ID) and proof of address, and take a selfie within the application before submitting.
      Step 2: Applicant 2 gets an invitation link by email asking them to fill in their part of the application.
      Step 3: Applicant 2 will need to upload both photo ID and proof of address as part of the process. A selfie will also be required during the online application as part of identity verification.
      Step 4: Once both forms are submitted, we will begin processing the request.
    • Branch – Visit your local branch and fill in the application form using a Kiosk or with the help of a staff member. You and Applicant 2 can give your photo identification (ID) and proof of address to a branch staff member, or you can upload them yourself using the link that will be emailed to you after you submit the application.

  • Who can apply online for a personal current account?

    Personal current account are available for customers aged 18 to 65. This account can also be opened as a joint account with another person.

  • I am not an Irish national. Can I apply for a current account?

    Yes, if you are not an Irish national and are resident in the Republic of Ireland, you can apply for a current account. Our current account comparison table shows all of our available account options. After you submit your application, you may be asked to provide more information like evidence of source of funds, or your source of wealth. If additional information is required, we will email you.
