How to Apply

If you’re aged 14 or older

Apply for a 2nd Level current account in a few easy steps by completing an online application form.

You will receive an email following the completion of your application with a link to our upload hub, where you should upload the following documents to complete the application:

  • Your current Passport
  • A selfie of you holding your Passport
  • Parent / legal guardian address (1 piece of address verification documentation dated within the last 6 months)
  • If you’re aged 16 or over we will also accept your book-type passport, your driving licence card (Ireland or UK only), your Irish passport card or your EU national identity card

You must seek your parent’s / legal guardian’s consent before providing us with the address verification belonging to them. You should also provide your parent / legal guardian with a copy of the Bank’s data privacy notice which is included in this application form and which will be emailed to you once your application is submitted.

The surname on the address verification must match the surname on your Passport. If they do not match, please complete the application in any Bank of Ireland branch and provide the above documents along with your Birth Certificate/ Guardianship Document.

If you’re aged under 14 (i.e. 12 & 13 years)

When you are completing this application form, your parent / legal guardian will need to provide their consent for the account to be opened.

When the application is submitted you and your parent / legal guardian will receive an email with a unique reference number. Your parent / legal guardian can bring the reference number to any Bank of Ireland branch along with the following documentation within 10 days of submitting your application:

  • Your current Passport or Birth Cert
  • Parent / legal guardian ID (Current Passport or Irish UK/Drivers Licence)
  • Parent / legal guardian address (1 piece of address verification documentation dated within the last 6 months)

The surname on the address verification and the parent / legal guardian ID must match the surname on your Passport. If they do not match, please also provide us with your Birth Certificate. Legal guardians should provide the Guardianship Document in Bank of Ireland branch.

If your parent or legal guardian is providing your Passport, the surname on your Passport must match your parent / legal guardians surname on their ID and on their address verification document. If they do not match, please also provide us with your Birth Certificate / Guardianship Document.
