What is life insurance?

Life insurance helps protect the people and things that matter most to you should the worst happen. If you pass away or suffer from a specified illness, it can help you and your family pay bills, keep your lifestyle, and safeguard your savings.

Having life insurance gives you peace of mind, knowing that what you care about is looked after, no matter what.

Frequently asked questions

  • How do I get more information for my needs & apply?
Whether you meet with us in-branch, speak to us over the phone or virtually our advice process will only take about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  • What is Life Choice?
Life Choice is the name of the policy associated with the suite of protection products available. It is the policy name you will see on your documents no matter which type of protection you choose. Life Choice policies are provided by Bank of Ireland Life.
  • What details do I need to give when applying for a life insurance policy?
When taking you through the application process, our professional consultants will ask you questions about your:

    • Lifestyle – hobbies, smoking, and alcohol consumption
    • Occupation – whether your job is high risk or not
    • Medical history – if you’ve ever been hospitalised, the outcome of any recent GP visits, your family’s medical history, your doctor’s contact details. With your consent, we may also ask your doctor to send us a health report depending on your health, age, type, and the amount of cover you want.

Please note: Make sure to fill in the application form fully and honestly. We need this information to work out the right premium for you, and it forms the basis of your policy. If you’re not sure if something is important to include, it’s best to include it.

  • Will my premium stay the same for the term of a Life Choice policy?
Yes, your premium is guaranteed. If you choose level premiums your premium will remain unchanged unless you make changes to the policy. If you choose increasing cover, your premiums will increase annually as agreed in your policy T&C’s.
  • Will I need to see a doctor?
Most policies are set up without the need to obtain further medical information from a nurse or doctor. You may be asked to complete a nurse medical or further information may be required from your G.P. if:

    1. You have had an illness Bank of Ireland Life needs to know more about
    2. OR

    3. You need a large amount of cover.

This review process is known as underwriting.
