Why must I now provide my Driver Number to renew my Motor Insurance Policy?
The changes are part of new Legislation (Road Traffic & Roads Act 2023) which, from 31 March, 2025, requires all Insurers to capture and validate the Driver Number for all parties to a Motor Insurance policy. A Policy cannot be issued unless a valid Driver Number is obtained for all Insured parties.

What is my Driver Number and where do I find it?
Your Driver Number is a unique-to-you Number that is found on your Driving Licence. On Irish Driving Licences it is found at 4d on your Licence (see below).

I have an existing car insurance policy provided by Bank of Ireland, how is my policy affected?

Bank of Ireland Insurance Services will no longer facilitate the general sale of New Motor Insurance policies from close of business 17 April 2025.

I have an existing car insurance policy provided by Bank of Ireland, what happens at renewal?
You will continue to receive notification of your renewal date ahead of the policy expiring, and be offered the opportunity to renew your car insurance policy in the same manner as before.

Will I still be issued with a no claims bonus?
Yes, existing motor insurance policies will continue to operate as normal.

Will I have to find a new provider for my existing Bank of Ireland Insurance policy?
No, your policy is unaffected.

Who is the insurer for my existing motor insurance policy?
Your motor insurance policy is underwritten by RSA Insurance Ireland DAC. Your policy remains in place and you continue to be fully insured by them.

I have just received my renewal, what are my options?
We encourage you to review your renewal documentation which outlines your premium and your cover. Your renewal documentation also includes details of your renewal payment options.
If you currently pay your premium by direct debit your policy will renew automatically unless you contact us at least 5 working days before your renewal date, to advise us that you do not wish your policy to renew automatically. You can call 01 290 1958 or email boimotorinsurance@ie.rsagroup.com to do this.
You should keep your insurance arrangements under review as there may be other alternatives in the market that could provide savings for you for similar cover.

What type of car insurance is available from Bank of Ireland Insurance Services?
You have two options to choose from:
- Comprehensive
- Third party fire & theft
Comprehensive car insurance covers you for a wide range of damage caused by an insured event like an accident, theft, fire, accidental damage to your car and lots more. Third party insurance covers damage to another person’s vehicle and property and covers fire damage to your car. Both our Comprehensive and Third party Fire & theft policies offer you third party cover to drive other cars (eligibility criteria applies). What is No Claims Discount?
No claims discount, is the amount of years you have held an insurance policy without making a claim. Based on the number of years you have been claims free your insurer will reduce your premium. T&Cs apply.

What is policy excess?
Excess is the sum of money which the policy holder is responsible for paying in the event of a claim.

Does it cost more to pay for insurance by direct debit?
Unlike many of our competitors, Bank of Ireland Insurance Services offer interest free monthly repayments so you can spread out the cost of your insurance at no extra cost!

I am covered to drive in the EU?
Our policy offers up to 45 days cover to drive in the European Union. T&Cs apply.
