  • Do I need to tell the bank I'm travelling abroad?
    No, you do not need to tell us us before you go. Our security systems automatically monitor your account for any unusual activity, so you’re protected wherever you are.
  • Will I be charged for using my debit card abroad?

    • In the Eurozone: You can tap your debit card across Europe without any extra fees, making it simple and seamless.
    • Outside the Eurozone: A foreign exchange fee will apply when you use your card in other currencies.

    Tip: Using your debit card is safer than carrying lots of cash.

  • Will I be charged for ATM withdrawal fees while abroad?

    • In the Eurozone: There are no additional fees to withdraw euros from ATMs in Eurozone countries. However, fees may still apply if the ATM operator charges their own fee.
    • Outside the Eurozone: You’ll be charged a 3.5% cross-border handling fee on the transaction amount.
      • Minimum fee: €3.17.
      • Maximum fee: €11.43 per transaction.
    • Northern Ireland exception: If you withdraw Sterling from a Bank of Ireland ATM in Northern Ireland, there’s no fee. But if you use other ATMs in Northern Ireland, the cross-border fee applies.
    • Tip: Using your debit card for purchases (especially contactless) is often cheaper than withdrawing cash abroad. And always choose to be charged in the local currency to avoid extra conversion fees.

  • How can I keep my card safe while travelling?
    Here are a few easy ways to protect your card abroad:
     

    • Use chip-and-PIN or contactless whenever possible
    • Avoid using public Wi-Fi for banking
    • Turn on transaction alerts for real-time updates
    • Keep your card secure and out of sight
    • Report any lost or stolen cards immediately
