What is a trusted contact person?

A trusted contact person is someone you choose who we can speak to about you in certain situations. This could be a family member or close friend. We will record their name and contact details and will only speak to them, and share information about you if:

  • We need to confirm your current contact information, your health or wellbeing, or the identity of anyone legally appointed as your guardian, representative, executor, or trustee (if applicable).

  • We cannot reach you, for example, because you are ill.

  • We believe you may be at risk of financial abuse, such as fraud or misuse of your money.

A trusted contact person cannot:

  • access your accounts, or make payments

  • make decisions on your behalf

  • give instructions on your behalf

  • act as your legal representative.

If you want someone to manage your account or give instructions (for example, through a power of attorney), we strongly recommend you seek independent legal advice.

You have a right to nominate a trusted contact person under the Consumer Protection Code. There is more information about appointing a trusted contact person in the explanatory notes section of our trusted contact person nomination form. You should read these carefully before appointing a trusted contact person.
