Frequently asked questionsHow long does it take to apply for a student bank account?You can apply for a Third Level current account online in minutes.Please note: In some cases, we may need extra documents from you before we can complete your application.Can I use my student account immediately after opening it?If your application is approved, it can take up to 2 working days for your account to be opened.Once your account is ready, we'll text you your IBAN. You can then register for digital banking and start managing your account online.You can add your account to Apple Pay or Google Pay before your Visa debit card arrives, so you can start making payments straight away. It can take up to 3 to 5 working days for your debit card to be linked to your digital banking profile, and 5 to 7 working days for your card to arrive by post.Please note: Account opening may take longer for international students, as we may need additional information or documents.Can I get paid into a student bank account?Yes. If you have a part-time job or receive regular payments, you can have them paid directly into your Third Level current account. Simply give your employer your IBAN and they'll be able to pay your salary straight into your account.How do my parents send money to my Irish bank account?It's easy. Just share your IBAN with your parents and they can transfer money directly into your account from their bank.What is the daily transfer limit for a Third Level account?You can transfer a maximum of €20,000 a day online using digital banking.What happens to my student account when I graduate?When you finish your studies, your Third Level current account will automatically move to a Bank of Ireland graduate current account.You'll continue to enjoy no monthly maintenance fee for two years after graduation. During this period, you can cancel the account without charges or penalties, subject to the bank's terms and conditions.If you wish to cancel your Third Level account within your 14-day cooling off period, you can use our online withdrawal function at boi.com/withdrawal. You can also cancel the contract by sending a notice in writing to Bank of Ireland 365, P.O.
