Why switch to Bank of Ireland?

Whether you’re switching from another bank or opening your first account, you’ll get a big welcome here at Bank of Ireland. Plus, of course, 200 years of experience, a network of over 1,000 locations where you can do your everyday banking, an easy to- navigate mobile app and the support of our expert advisers, who’ll help you take control of your financial wellbeing.

Follow these easy steps to switch your current account:

  1. Explore our offerings: Start by exploring our current account options to find the one that best suits your needs. If you already have a BOI current account you can use, you can go straight to filling out the switcher form here.
  2. Open your BOI current account. Create your perfect package: Apply for a standalone current account, or customise with additional products in one simple form .
  3. Once your new current account is opened with us you can begin using it straight away. You can manually transfer your direct debits and standing orders yourself, or you can let us help by filling out the Switcher form below. You’ll also need to provide your employer with the new Bank of Ireland account details to switch your salary across.
  4. Fill out the switching form Once you have received your new Bank of Ireland current account number which we will send by SMS, complete our easy to use switching form that will guide you through the switching process.
  5. What happens next?: we will contact your old bank to start the switch for you, your old bank will notify your Direct Debit Originators of your new bank details. We’ll set up the standing orders. The switching process takes 10 working days, during which time you will not be able to use your old bank account.

We recommend you still contact your Direct Debit Originators directly to confirm set up as they may not take instruction from a third party. In this instance your ‘old’ bank is considered a 3rd party. You’ll need to provide your employer with the new Bank of Ireland account details.
