Transfers

  • How can I transfer money abroad?

Using 365 online or Mobile Banking

If you are registered for 365 online, you can add an international payee through your 365 online account.

If you are a Republic of Ireland customer, that will then allow you to make euro transfers to non SEPA zone countries (e.g. Euro to China) and foreign currency payments (e.g. USD to USA or Sterling to the UK) using either the 365 online website or Mobile Banking application.

If you wish to use 365 online or Mobile Banking to transfer in euros to a SEPA zone country the account should be added as a SEPA Payee through 365 online.

If you are a Northern Ireland or Great Britain customer, by adding an international payee you can make sterling and foreign currency transfers to other countries (e.g. Sterling to Spain or AUD to Australia).

International Transfer functionality is not available on the Mobile Banking app for NI/GB customers.

There is a total daily transaction limit of €/£20,000 (including international fees and charges).

The threshold limit per transaction is €/£10,000 for India (INR), Thailand (THB) and the Philippines (PHP).

For added security, payments to Payees added using a security code sent to your mobile phone are subject to a working day transfer limit of €/£10,000 (including international fees and charges). These limits are included in the €/£20,000 daily transaction limit per working day for total payments on 365 online.

For transfers over €/£20,000, please contact your local Bank of Ireland Branch.

    Using branch

Customers can make an international transfer in the branch for over €/£10,000, amounts smaller than that may be transacted on 365 online. If you wish to transfer funds to a country not available on Banking 365, please contact your nearest branch who will be able to assist with this.

If you wish to transfer funds to a country available on Banking 365 and the amount you wish to transfer is over €/£20,000 or a payment in urgent, please contact your local branch.

  • What is the most cost effective way to send money abroad?

You can save significantly by sending your payments online. There are no payment fees on Bank of Ireland international payments to the UK, EU Member States and EEA Countries (e.g. Sterling to UK, Zloty to Poland). Countries with an FX Conversion (e.g. US$ to United States) are only €5.

Full details of our International payment transaction charges are contained in our brochure Schedule of International Transaction Charges, also available from any branch.

Before you complete a transfer request on 365 online you will be presented with any applicable foreign exchange rates and any relevant charges on the PIN entry screen.
