New to Bank of Ireland
If you are new to Bank of Ireland you will need to provide photo id (valid passport or Irish driver’s license) and two forms of address verification and 6 months bank statements from your primary current account.
- 2. How long do I have to draw down the loan
Once a loan is approved you will have 30 days to draw it down, after this a new application would have to be made.
- 3. How much will the monthly repayments be?
This will depend on:
- The amount of the loan
- The term of the loan
- The interest rate, which is currently a discounted variable rate of 5.6% Annual Percentage Rate
The term of the loan is the agreed time it takes you to repay it.
We have detailed an example of a post graduate loan repayment below.
For the purposes of the example we will assume that loan repayments are deferred for 12 months (which is an option on the loan) but interest will apply on the loan balance from the date of first drawdown. The indicative cost based on an interest rate of 5.5% variable (Annual Percentage Rate of Charge (APRC) 5.6%) assuming drawdown of the full amount of €14,000 with deferral of the first 12 months’ repayments and full capital & interest repayments for the following 48 months (from month 13) would be €343.70 per month for 48 months. Total amount repayable of €16,497.60. Total cost of credit €2,497.60. Variable rates correct as at the 30th June 2020 and are subject to change.
- 4. What happens after I submit my application?
Your application will be processed by the branch and by a central credit team who will contact you directly if they require more information.
You will receive an update from our student team when we make a decision on your application.
- 5. Do I need to have savings or a guarantor to take out a loan?
For Postgraduate loans, we generally require a guarantee from a parent or guardian. Please contact your local branch to discuss further.
- 6. Do I have to repay my loan while I am studying?
For a Postgraduate loan, there is an option to defer the first repayment by 12 months if you are repaying your loan monthly. This 12 month period begins once the loan is drawn down.
